This fun page is for folks who have been web-surfing, perhaps in pursuit of a lawyer for a particular personal or business problem, and came across Mr. Schulz's website. "What IS an appellate attorney" you wonder?
Generally when a legal matter has been decided in the lower courts there is a winner and a loser. Sometimes the party who lost might feel that his/her matter didn't receive proper consideration and would like to have a higher court review the case.
That's where the appellate attorney can be of great assistance. He can advise the unsuccessful party on appeal rights, the chances of winning in the higher court, and whether or not it would be cost-effective to take and perfect an appeal. The party who won the matter in the lower court may also seek out an appellate attorney if the case is appealed by the other side. The appeals process can be very difficult and time-consuming. Sometimes the attorney who handled the matter in the lower court will want to continue. Other times, the issues are very complicated, and that lawyer might consider calling in an attorney who is more familiar with the appeals process.
Usually, Mr. Schulz is contacted to assist a colleague with a matter. Sometimes however, he is contacted directly by the party who wants to take the appeal. In either case he is happy to take a look at the matter and discuss it with either the litigant or the attorney.
If you're not looking for an appellate attorney, and instead for a lawyer to handle a different kind of problem (traffic ticket, matrimonial, injury, etc.) please feel free to contact Mr. Schulz for a recommendation. Over the years he has worked with many fine attorneys and might be able to match you and your case to one of these good lawyers. He'd be happy to give you a hand!
